THE HISTORY OF AKUAPEM STATE

TRADITIONAL DIVISIONS OF AKUAPEM

Although the Okuapehemaa and all the Kingmakers, called Okoman elders, and Ankobeafo (Counsellors) throw their full weight,behind Okuapehene and assist him to ́govern ́, the Okuapehene exercise his functions mainly through the area’s five Divisional Chiefs and their divisions, namely:

THE KRONTIHENE  In concert and close collaboration with the Okoman elders and Okuapehene’s Ankobeafo, the Krontihene administers the affairs of Akropong, the capital. According to protocol, he is the next- in -command to the Okuapehene for all administrative issues whenever the former is away.
The present incumbent Krontihene is Osahene Ofei Kwasi Agyeman IV. He is also the Senior Divisional Chief of Akuapem.

THE ADONTENHENE: He administers the Adonten Division from Aburi. The division has Berekuso, Kitase, Gyankama, Ahwerease, Konkonuru and Nsawam. The present Adontenhene is Nana Gyan Kwasi 11.
He ranks after the Krontihene.

THE GYASEHENE: He is the custodian of all the Okuapehene’s stool paraphernalia and looks after all traditional and customary activities at the palace when the Okuapenhene is absent. He administers the affairs of the Gyase Division. Amanokrom is his seat. The Division comprises, Amano, Upper Dodowa, Adawso, and their villages. The present Gyasehene is Ossim Kwatia 11, who ranks after Adontenhene.

THE NIFAHENE: He administers the affairs of the Nifa Division {right wing} from Adukrom.
The Division has Abiriw, Awukugua, Dawu, Adukrom, Apredi, Asesseeso, and Abonse in its fold. At present the installed Nifahene is yet to sworn an oath to Okuapehene to confirm him as Nifahene.

THE BENKUMHENE: He administers the Benkum Division { left wing] from Larteh- Ahenase. The Division consists of Larteh { both Ahenease and Kubease }, Obosomase, Tutu, Mampong, Abotakyi, Mamfe, Tinkong, Okrase, and Asuoyaa. The present Benkumhene is Osabaima Enyinne Asiedu Akoo 11. He is also the Kyidomhene of Akuapem
